September MeetingS

We will be having our regular guild meeting next Wednesday, Sept 10 at Thimbles. The meeting will begin at the usual time, 9:30 am. Since most had not finished the toe of the Christmas stocking, we will continue the work on the cuff and toe of the stocking. If you have not gotten started on this project now is a great time to join in.

Next month we will begin the silk embroidery patch, so be thinking about which Christmas flower you will want to use and start lining up the required silk ribbons. I will have instructions for the Poinsettia, Holly and Mistletoe designs to hand out at this meeting since the book is out of print.

We will also be having a "Sit and Sew" at Melina's house the following Friday, Sept 12. The primary purpose will be to finish up the Wee Care gowns for the convention and start compiling the goodies for our raffle basket. But bring along an unfinished project to work on as well (Christmas Stocking??) . We want to complete our guild obligations to the national convention but I know we all have way too many unfinished projects of our own as well.

Melina has graciously offered to not only open her home to us but also will be providing lunch. Missy has also agreed to provide a salad so Melina says there will be plenty for all. Just come and relax and enjoy good food, good company and good times sewing and preparing for convention.

The overwhelming vote was in favor of the Christening gown theme for the raffle basket with most expressing a preference of white. Let's all dig through our stashes and see if we can pull together some really great things to bring together in this basket. To make a great looking basket, we will need more than just lace, fabric, patterns so if you can think of anything special/unique to add, please bring it in or let the guild know if it is something we would need to buy. Maybe something nice for a new mom? I've seen some 'soothing/message' type lotions/soaps etc. that are made here in Birmingham and thought that might add a touch of our hometown flavor. Bring all your ideas to the meetings so we can have this pulled together in plenty of time.

I'll check with Melina about the starting time for the Friday "Sit and Sew" but can at least tell you we will not begin before 10 am. This is going to be relaxing and fun and getting across town early in the morning (at least for me) is neither relaxing nor fun.

I hope to see you all on Wednesday and Friday.

Darlene! This looks great! I have a bonnet stand I have made. It is very simple. Just a candle stick.. Well, you will see it. Looks nice, but simple. I can make a fancier one if you like. I have the stuff to do it. I think scissors fob might be nice as well if someone would like to make one.
