February is National Smocking Month
Hello Smocking Guild Members.
Wednesday, February 13, 2013, will be the first Wee Care Garment work day for 2013. It is to be held at the Hoover Library in order to provide more room than our normal meeting place, The Sewing Room. We will be starting when the Library opens at 9 - 9:30 am and staying until the job is done, or we are too tired to continue. Please set aside this important day so we can get as much done as possible. We will eat lunch in the Coffeeology Cafe at the library.
In addition, Wendy Garner of Daytime Alabama will be filming a short (3 - minute) segment for Channel 13, WVTM-TV. Our President, Karen Duncan, has graciously agreed to teach Wendy smocking. As you know, February is National Smocking month, so let's put our best foot forward by showing how, not only to smock, but the great deal of work involved in preparing the fabric.
Because the TV crew will be showing up at 10:00 a.m., it is important that we set up as quickly as possible. If you have an area you would particularly like to work, please let us know. Your expertise is invaluable. We would like to show them just how much work is involved in providing Children's Hospital the quality garments for which the Guild is known.
Oh yes, please bring your already smocked garments that you made in times past, last year or whenever, in order to show just how beautiful smocked garments can be. We will have a "tree" to hang them on, so please provide a hanger for them.
So, please come, roll up your sleeves up and plan on a work day at the Library next week. Just because it's a work day doesn't mean we can't have a lot of fun....and we will!
